Craft beer in Finland: Panimo Himo from Pirkkala
Tampere, the third largest city of Finland and a regional capital of Pirkanmaa, is often said to be the most attractive city of the country. This historical, beautiful city is located between two large lakes and divided in two parts by Tammerkoski rapids. Tampere has a long history as an industrial city, which is visible still today in the many red-brick industry buildings of the city center. When it comes to beer, Tampere and its surroundings are rather famous too, establishing itself as the beer capital of Finland. And yes, there are great local breweries and several excellent beer restaurants, as well as beer festivals and other events. In this post introduce Panimo Himo, a small brewery located just outside the city of Tampere itself, in Pirkkala.

Himo (the name can be translated to desire or passion) is an independent and creative artisan brewery that was founded in 2021 and started brewing operations in KCM Pirkkala in 2022. Himo crew brews quality craft beers for domestic market – a big part of the production is sold very close to the source, but Himo also delivers their beers to other supermarkets and restaurants.

Panimo Himo keeps constantly launching new beers

Out of the Panimo Himo craft beers that we tasted in summer and autumn 2025, some of our favorites were the Combat Rock Industry XXV, a NEPA brewed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Combat Rock Industry record label, the Himo Homo Go Deeper, a NEDIPA that respects the emancipation and equality of sexual and gender minorities in the spirit of the Pride philosophy, and the juicy Loivari NEIPA, brewed in collaboration with Hupi Brewing. In addition, we liked a lot for example the Kämmen/Rysty Pilsner, the Musta tunti (Dark Hour) Dark Lager and the Älä silitä palavaa pukkia (Don’t stroke the burning goat) Smoked Beer.
